Wise Words Lecture Series invites retiring professors to share their wisdom

4.12.2018

The Dorothy Foster Society at 天美传媒, in conjunction with the Center for Academic Excellence, is proud to present the Wise Words Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 19, in Kirby Learning Center, Room 6 at 6:30 p.m. Both lectures are free and open to the public.

The lecture series, in its second year, will feature two retiring members of the 天美传媒 family. To celebrate their time at IC, students chose Jim Proffitt, assistant professor of business administration, and Naomi Hahn, A. Boyd Pixley Professor of Humanities and English, to impart some final words of wisdom during their 鈥渓ast lecture鈥 at IC. Both are retiring after the academic year.

On April 17, Hahn will present 鈥淏eyond Leadership and Service,鈥 which will be an interactive session that she described as 鈥渟omething between a lecture and a class.鈥 Hahn encourages attendees to bring a writing implement to participate and be ready for an evening that includes 鈥渁 little Shakespeare, a little Homer and a lot of IC鈥檚 mission statement.鈥

On April 19, Proffitt presents 鈥淭ake Me Out to the Ballgame: A Trip to Cooperstown,鈥 which centers around his recent visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Proffitt plans to cover the history of the small town and how it found a way to survive through tourism. He said he is thankful to have been chosen by students for the lecture series.

鈥淚 am honored to be invited to make a presentation associated with the Dorothy Foster Society. It means a lot because I am both an alum and a retiring professor,鈥 said Proffitt.
